Fernando Verdasco

Verdasco has been a victim of tough losses to a number of tennis’ top and rising stars. He lost to Lucas Pouille in Shanghai, to Marin Cilic in the Japan Open and to Stan Wawrinka in the US Open, all of which happened in the early rounds.

Despite this, the 32-year-old Spaniard put up some serious resistance in all of those matches, especially the one against Cilic, who needed three grueling sets, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5, to finish him off. Verdasco will look to continue competing at a high level and stay hopeful that he sees himself on the winning side in Stockholm this time around.

Malek Jaziri

Jaziri can relate to Verdasco’s recent downfalls. The Tunisian’s run at the China Open was quickly ended by Milos Raonic, who eliminated him in convincing fashion in the Round of 16. Prior to that tournament though, Jaziri was coming off a relatively solid effort at Shenzhen, where he pulled off a shocker at the expense of David Goffin in the same round. It’ll be interesting to see if Jaziri can surprise us next week.

Daniel Evans

Evans has bagged home three Challenger titles this year already, which appears to be a positive indication of his readiness to take his game to the next level. He showed us a glimpse of his potential in the third round of the US Open, where he almost got an upset over the eventual winner Stan Wawrinka. The Swiss needed five long sets to survive a valiant stand from Evans.
