Copa America Centenario Long Shots and Best Value Picks, Predictions and Preview
Peru
Peru (+6,600) is a two-time tournament Copa America champion, and Los Incas have been close in recent years with third-place finishes in 2011 and 2015. Paolo Guerrero remains their main player, leading the team with 26 goals in 67 caps. He was only one of two players to score four goals in the 2015 Copa America. Meanwhile, Andre Carillo, Christian Cueva and Claudio Pizarro had one goal each.Peru has gone unbeaten in their last five matches leading into this year’s tournament with three victories.
Venezuela
Venezuela isn’t a soccer super power in the Americas as evidenced by its +10,000 odds to win the Copa America Centenario, though its enjoyed some progress in recent years. La Vinito finished fourth at Copa America 2011 and placed just outside of CONMEBOL’s World Cup qualifying playoff spot for the 2014 World Cup.
Rafael Dudamel now heads the Venezuelan team brimming with potential. He gets to work with forward Salomon Rondon (49 caps and 16 goals), who plays for the English Premier League’s West Bromwich Albion, as his centrepiece.
Jamaica
Jamaica took plenty of positives from the Copa America last year, its first time playing in the prestigious tournament. The Reggae Boyz exited in the Group Stage, but did some damage later on in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, knocking off the United States in the semifinals before finishing second behind Mexico.
A backline and midfield brimming with talent remains Jamaica’s strong point. The Reggae Boyz are led by captain Rodolph Austin (84 caps and seven goals) from midfield. They’ll also have some help from defender Jermaine Taylor (86 caps), who has plenty of experience playing in the United States as a member of MLS’ Portland Timbers. Jamaica is +20,000 to win the Copa America Centenario.
