2016 NFL Week 2 Fantasy Sleepers

Tyrell Williams – Wide Receiver, San Diego Chargers

NFL-Preseason-250x130-7-27-16

The loss of Keenan Allen was huge not just for the Chargers, but for every fantasy owner who drafted him. Well, what’s done is done. It’s time to move on and search for a viable replacement. Speaking of which, there’s arguably no better option than Tyrell Williams.

Williams’ value and playing time were massively boosted with Allen’s season-ending injury. The 24-year-old undrafted wide receiver caught two passes for 71 yards in the Chargers’ loss to Kansas City last week. He’s expected to put up solid or even better figures in the home opener versus the Jaguars. San Diego relies heavily on the passing game, which makes Williams a more attractive option.

Jalen Richard – Running back, Oakland Raiders

Jalen Richard of the Raiders kicked off his NFL career with a bang. He was very efficient with 84 yards on just three carries, including a 75-yard rushing touchdown. Plus, he also surprised many fantasy owners with two catches for 11 yards.

However, Richard remains at the back of the line behind Latavius Murray and DeAndre Washington as Oakland’s top two backs. Nevertheless, his promising performance last week should have earned him some of head coach Jack Del Rio’s trust. If so, Richard could be a very worth gamble in the long run.

Jesse James – Tight End, Pittsburgh Steelers

For those owners, especially those in deeper leagues, who are looking for a short-term replacement or a backup at the tight end position, you might want to pick up Jesse James.

James appears to be the Steeler’s starting tight end until Ladarius Green recovers from his ankle injury. The 22-year-old did a decent job in freeing himself up against Washington last week, hauling in five passes for 31 yards. But with the Pittsburgh offense surrounded with a lot of dynamic targets, James is going to receive a relatively low share of looks.

Still, James’ size and good hands makes him such an attractive red-zone target for Ben Roethlisberger. Don’t be surprised to see James deliver his first touchdown of the season this week.

Carson Wentz – Quarterback, Philadelphia Eagles

Carson Wentz was one of main headlines in Week 1. He barely showed any signs of nervousness in his first career NFL game, going 22 of 37 for 278 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions to lead the Eagles over the Browns, 29-10. Wentz should be able to find the same success, and is worth starting in this week’s showdown the Bears, who allowed 31 passing touchdowns just a season ago.

Nick Novak – Kicker, Houston Texans

Did your starting kicker not do so well in the opening week? If yes, then maybe you should switch him up with this guy: Nick Novak. He was perfect during the Texan’s win over the Bears, nailing all three of his field-goal attempts and a pair of extra-point tries.  You can expect Novak to put up consistent numbers under a much-improved Houston offense.

Baltimore Ravens Defense

The Baltimore defense is bound to feast upon the Browns this week. With only one game into the season, Cleveland’s already lost its starting quarterback. Josh McCown is set to claim starting duties, but he won’t be enough to carry the offense past the Ravens, who impressively held the Bills below 10 points last week.
