2016 PGA PLAYERS Championship Cut Line and Odds Update

The PLAYERS Championship has never had a back-to-back champion in its illustrious 42-year history, and that streak is safe for another year after defending champion Rickie Fowler missed the cut. He’s joined by Phil Mickelson, who missed the cut for the fourth consecutive year, as well as Masters champion Danny Willett.

But perhaps the biggest casualty was world No. 2 Jordan Spieth. It’s the second straight year Spieth has failed to make it past Friday at TPC Sawgrass.

All four players finished 1-under, and missed the 2-under cut by a single stroke.

As for the players left standing, world No. 1 Jason Day has been head and shoulders above them all through two rounds. The Aussie shot a sizzling 15-under 129 to set a new 36-hole record at TPC Sawgrass. He leads Ireland’s Shane Lowry by four strokes.

Meanwhile, Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy is tied for 12th, seven strokes off the pace, and this despite a scorching 8-under 64 in Round 2. He’s joined in 12th by reigning British Open champion Zach Johnson and rising star Brooks Koepka.
