To say that Chelsea had a disappointing 2015-16 season would be a severe understatement. After winning the Premier League in record fashion last year, many were expecting the Blues to dominate the competition once again this season. What transpired, however, was a collapse of historic proportions as the powerhouse club not only failed in their title defense this year, they also missed out on the coveted Champions League qualification.
Through 37 games this season, Chelsea have managed to rack up just 49 points. That’s way below their 84-point haul at this same stage last season. So what changed? Stamford Bridge was no longer a fortress for Chelsea as they recorded just 23 points at home this season, 13th in the entire Premier League. That’s a major concern for manager Guus Hiddink heading into their final home match against Leicester City this coming Sunday. The good news for the Blues is that midfielder Eden Hazard is starting to find his range once again. The Belgian international has scored four goals in his last four outings. Hazard scored the opening goal in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Wednesday.
He will need to be at his best, though, against a Leicester City defense that has conceded just 17 goals on the road this season, second-fewest in the Premier League. The Foxes have recorded three clean sheets in their last four league matches.
The Blues are 1-4-1 in their last six Premier League home matches. They are pegged at -129 to score first in this game.
Betting on Leicester City (+195)
There’s just no stopping Leicester City right now. Leicester City stretched their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 10 matches with an emphatic 3-1 victory over Everton on Saturday. Jamie Vardy scored a double for the Foxes who clinched their first-ever league crown. Vardy has been superb for Leicester City this season, scoring a team-best 24 goals this campaign. That’s only one fewer than Golden Boot leader Harry Kane’s mark in the Premier League this season.
The Foxes will look to continue their excellent form when they face Chelsea this coming Sunday. It’s going to be an emotional day for manager Claudio Ranieri as the Italian will be given a guard of honour by his former club. The Foxes will fancy their chances of grabbing all three points as they have fared extremely well on the road this season. The Foxes are tops in the league in points scored away from home this campaign with 38. They have scored 32 goals in 18 matches played on the road this campaign.
They will be licking their chops at the prospect of facing a Chelsea backline that has conceded a whopping 29 goals at home this season, fifth-most in the Premier League. Chelsea are 14th in the league in scoring defense, allowing 52 goals this campaign. The Foxes beat the Blues, 2-1, in their first meeting at King Power Stadium this season.
The Foxes are 4-1-1 in their last six Premier League away matches. They are pegged at +110 to score first in this match.
