Billy Horschel

One golfer who can definitely make a run at the title this week is Billy Horschel. The American came so close to ending his title drought at TPC San Antonio last week, losing by just two shots to eventual champion Charley Hoffman. Horschel has been playing some excellent golf of late, finishing in the top-20 in three of his last five starts.

Key to Horschel’s resurgence has been his outstanding play from tee to green. He is 35th in the PGA Tour in strokes gained in that particular department with a solid .743 clip. That will be a crucial weapon for Horschel when navigating this tough TPC Louisiana course.

Charles Howell III

Charles Howell tees off

Looking for a worthy sleeper this week? How about Charles Howell III? Yes, it has been nine years since Howell last won on the PGA Tour, but he has a great chance of ending that barren run this week at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. He’s 6-for-7 in this particular event, including a second-place finish back in 2009.

If that wasn’t enough, Howell is starting to rediscover the form that made him one of the best golfers in the world before. He’s recorded three top-25s in his last four starts, bringing his season total to 11. With the form that he is in right now and his experience with this TPC Louisiana course, expect Howell to post some red numbers and contend for the championship this week.

Chris Kirk

Chris Kirk tees off

Another golfer who can definitely surprise this week is Chris Kirk. The 30-year-old has been playing some solid golf of late, notching four top-25 finishes in his last five starts. He’s fresh off a 13th-place showing at the recently-concluded Valero Texas Open. While Kirk doesn’t have a lot of experience on this course, he did finish in the top 25 in the 2013 Zurich Classic, his most recent appearance in this event. That will give Kirk the confidence to perform strongly at TPC Louisiana this week.
