Betting on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (24-8, 12-6 ACC)
Notre Dame stormed into the semifinals of the 2017 ACC Tournament with a resounding 71-58 victory over Virginia on Thursday night. It was a historic victory for the Fighting Irish who beat the Cavaliers for the first time since joining the Atlantic Coast Conference. Notre Dame was 0-5 against Virginia since entering the ACC, never breaking 66 points during that span. The Irish’s offense, however, finally solved the riddle that is the Virginia D, scoring 71 points on a high 52.2 percent clip.
The Irish will look to sustain the momentum of that huge win when they lock horns with Florida State later tonight. Notre Dame will fancy its chances of doing just that as it has fared extremely well against Florida State of late. The Irish trounced the Seminoles, 84-72, in their last meeting on February 11. Bonzie Colson scored a career-high 33 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Notre Dame in that ballgame. Colson has been a double-double machine for the Irish, already nabbing 19 this campaign. That includes his 21-point, 10-rebound performance against Virginia in the ACC quarterfinal.
Notre Dame is 7-3 SU and ATS in its last 10 games.
Betting on the Florida State Seminoles (25-7, 12-6 ACC)
The Florida State Seminoles barged into the semifinals of the 2017 ACC Tournament with a thrilling 74-68 victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies on Thursday. It was a morale-boosting win for the Seminoles who reached the semis of the ACC tourney for the first time since their famous 2012 championship victory. Starring for Florida State in this come-from-behind victory was Dwayne Bacon. He scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half to spark the comeback for FSU. Bacon has been a revelation for the Seminoles this season, averaging a team-best 16.9 points per game this campaign.
Make no mistake about it, though. It took a total team effort for Florida State to beat Virginia Tech. Seven players scored at least six points for the Seminoles on Thursday. The Seminoles’ depth has been a major weapon for them this season with 11 Florida State players logging an average of at least 10 minutes per game this campaign. The fresher Seminoles benefited from that depth in the win against Virginia Tech, nabbing 18 offensive boards and 16 second-chance points.
Next up for Florida State is a semis clash with Notre Dame. For the Seminoles to grab the win later tonight, they will need to continue their excellent play inside the paint. They outrebounded Virginia Tech, 45-31, and outscored them 42-20 inside the shaded area. The Seminoles, who have won a team-record 24 regular season games, are eighth in the nation in scoring offense, averaging 83.0 points per game this campaign.
Florida State is 7-3 SU and 6-4 ATS in its last 10 games.
