Music heads have been heading to sportsbooks since the 56th Grammy Awards nominees were released back in December 6 to check out the odds of those nominees to win in their respective categories. Come January 26, 2014, their guesses will be answered when the winners are announced at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
If you enjoy placing bets on awards shows, then we have you covered. Below is a list of some of the big awards, with nominees and odds, to be doled out at the Grammies this year.
Betting Preview for 2014 Grammy Awards: Odds & Nominees
1) Album Of The Year
Emerging as the odds-on favorite to win the album of the year award is Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ debut hip hop album, The Heist (-150). The album, which has the hits “Can’t Hold Us” and “Thrift Shop,” was released back in October 2012 and immediately sold 78,000 in its first week. Aside from this nomination, the duo is also up for six more awards.
- The Blessed Unrest — Sara Bareilles (+800)
- Random Access Memories — Daft Punk (+300)
- Good Kid, M.A.A.D City — Kendrick Lamar (+250)
- The Heist — Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (-150)
- Red — Taylor Swift (+300)
2) Record Of The Year
From all the way down in New Zealand is 17-year old Lorde, who broke into the music scene with her debut album, The Love Club. The album’s only single, “Royals,” zoomed to No. 1 position in the New Zealand Top 40 before crossing the Pacific to rule the US Billboard Hot 100. Another top favorite to take home the award is electronic music duo Daft Punk with ”Get Lucky,” which has Pharrell Williams (The Neptunes) on vocals.
- Get Lucky — Daft Punk & Pharrell Williams (+150)
- Radioactive — Imagine Dragons (+250)
- Royals — Lorde (+350)
- Locked Out Of Heaven — Bruno Mars (+250)
- Blurred Lines — Robin Thicke Featuring T.I. & Pharrell Williams (+300)
4) Song Of The Year
Just like in the Record of the Year category, Lorde’s “Royals” is looking good in the odds to bring home the gilded gramophone. Worth noting is that the difference between ROTY and Song of the Year is that the former gives credit not only to the performer and singer but also to the production team (sound engineers, etc.), while the SOTY is basically to recognize the composer and not the performer.
- Just Give Me A Reason — Jeff Bhasker, Pink & Nate Ruess, songwriters (Pink Featuring Nate Ruess)
- Locked Out Of Heaven — Philip Lawrence, Ari Levine & Bruno Mars, songwriters (Bruno Mars)
- Roar — Lukasz Gottwald, Max Martin, Bonnie McKee, Katy Perry & Henry Walter, songwriters (Katy Perry)
- Royals — Joel Little & Ella Yelich O’Connor, songwriters (Lorde)
- Same Love — Ben Haggerty, Mary Lambert & Ryan Lewis, songwriters (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Featuring Mary Lambert)
5) Best New Artist
- James Blake (+600)
- Kendrick Lamar (+275)
- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (-300)
- Kacey Musgraves (+600)
- Ed Sheeran (+450)
