The Astros look to return to winning ways later tonight, when they hand the ball to Collin McHugh following a 6-1 loss to Kansas City on Sunday. McHugh is winless in four starts this month, accumulating a 0-1 record and a 4.37 ERA thus far this June. As for the Angels, they’ll have Matt Shoemaker tossing for the series opener. Like McHugh, Shoemaker is still searching for his first victory this month, going 0-3 with a 2.50 ERA in his last four starts. The Astros are 4-1 in their last five road games. The Astros are 6-4 in their last 10 home games against Houston.

Jeff Samardzija faces his former team later tonight, when he toes the rubber for Game 1 of this series. Samardzija, who is 8-4 with a 3.59 ERA in 15 starts this year, is coming off a bad outing, giving up six earned runs on six hits in three innings of a 7-6 loss to Pittsburgh on January 22. The A’s, meanwhile, will have Daniel Mengden on the mound. Mengden is 0-3 with a 3.00 ERA in three starts this year.
