Pitching Edge – Boston Red Sox (-180)
Rick Porcello certainly likes pitching at Fenway Park. The right-hander has an unblemished 10-0 record to go with a respectable 3.21 ERA in 11 home starts thus far this year. The last time he took the mound in Boston, Porcello pitched for 6.2 innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits in an 8-7 win over Minnesota on July 24. Porcello brings a 14-3 record and a 3.46 ERA to the game later tonight.Porcello will be pitted against Luis Severino, who will finally make his first start after a series of relief duties. Severino had extended time out of the bullpen in his last appearance, however, pitching for 4.1 innings and giving up just a run (unearned) on just a hit in a 9-5 win over the Mets on August 3.
Batting Edge – Boston Red Sox (-180)
When it comes to offense, the Red Sox are miles apart from their rivals. Boston is tops in the MLB in runs, batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. Mookie Betts and Aaron Hill have been smashing it at the plate over the last six games, batting .385 and .357, respectively, during that span with a combined effort of 15 hits and six RBI.
As for the Yankees, they’re hitting a measly .238 since the All-Star break. They’re also just 20th in runs following the midseason lull with 83. Boston, on the other hand, has 108.
Writer’s Prediction: Boston (-150) wins, 5-3.
