Sam Querrey

250x130-250FREE-6-16-16

Sam Querrey has looked ordinary since his miracle run at this year’s Wimbledon Championships. He’s only made one quarterfinal appearance in his last five events. Despite this, the American could be worthy long shot to bet on especially for those optimistic bettors who love taking bold risks.

Half—or 14 to be precise—of Querrey’s victories this season have been on outside hard courts. That stretch includes his only title of the year at Delray Beach and a pair of semifinal appearances at Memphis and Acapulco. Can Querrey find some success in the hard courts of Arthur Ashe Stadium? Who knows?

Querrey is the favorite (-450) to defeat Janko Tipsarevic in the first round.

Viktor Troicki

Betting on Viktor Troicki is a pretty big risk as well, but he should be in a better mental shape than the American above. The World No. 32 heads into Flushing Meadows fresh off a notable effort in last week’s Winston-Salem Open. In that event, he overcame Kyle Edmund, Fernando Verdasco and Querrey before losing in the semifinal to the eventual runner-up Roberto Bautista Agut after three closely-fought sets.

Also, Troicki’s is known to thrive on hard courts. He did, after all, succeed in defending his title in this year’s Sydney International, where he outlasted Grigor Dimitrov, 2-6, 6-1, 7-6(7), in the final despite losing the first set. It’ll be interesting to see if the Serbian can get it his game going in New York this week.

Troicki is priced at -500 to dispatch Radu Albot in the opening round.

Pablo Carreno Busta

Pablo Carreno Busta is probably the best long shot to bet on here, considering that his first win of the season just happened at last week’s Winston-Salem Open. His route to victory wasn’t easy, as the young Spaniard was mightily tested by fearsome opponents like World No. 20 Pablo Cuevas and No. 17 Roberto Bautista Agut, whom Carreno Busta defeated in the final.

Ultimately, that successful run in North Carolina should help Carreno Busta put on a solid performance at Flushing Meadows this week. He’s favored (-550) to move on to the second round at the expense of Ilya Ivashka.
