San Francisco Giants vs. Chicago Cubs (2:20 PM ET)

Line: San Francisco Giants (+130) at Chicago Cubs (-140) – view all MLB lines

Cubs fans can look forward to the return of veteran starter John Lackey (9-7, 3.41 ERA), who’s finally been cleared to play since being in the disabled list due to a right shoulder strain. In his last start, the 37-year-old lefty gave up just one run in over 6 2/3 innings in a tough 4-6 loss to his former team—the Cardinals.  Lackey is 1-1 with a 2.57 ERA in two career starts versus San Francisco.

Speaking of the visiting Giants, Johnny Cueto (14-5, 2.98 ERA) is set to take the hill for them. The former Royals hurler surrendered four earned runs after logging in just 4 2/3 innings in an eventual loss to the D-Backs last Tuesday. He’s been on a decline lately, carrying a 1-4 record with a 4.25 ERA through nine games since tossing for the National League in the All-Star Game.

Writer’s Prediction

Cubs (-140) win it, 7-4.

Washington Nationals vs. New York Mets (8:08 PM ET)

Line: Washington Nationals at New York Mets – view all MLB lines

After losing the opener, the Nats quickly bounced back in the following game and now have a chance to win the series tonight against the reigning National League champion Mets. Washington is sending Reynaldo Lopez (2-2, 5.33 ERA) to step on the rubber. He’s set to make just his sixth career start and first since being thrashed by the Orioles for six runs in less than three frames on August 23. On the road this season, Lopez is 1-1 with a 5.27 ERA.

The Mets, meanwhile, are putting their trust on the hands of Seth Lugo (2-2, 2.60 ERA). He’s done a tremendous job ever since taking Steven Matz’s spot in the rotation. Lugo, who arguably boasts the best curveball in baseball right now, has given up no more than three run in his previous three starts. That stretch includes his first major league win against the Cards on August 25, during which he registered five shutout innings.

Writer’s Prediction

Mets win it, 4-2.
