Betting on the Jacksonville State Gamecocks

Don’t underestimate the chances of the Gamecocks to reel in a win against a favored opponent such as LSU. Just last season, Jacksonville State nearly scored an upset of Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium, losing to the Tigers in overtime, 27-20.

Jacksonville State arrives in Baton Rouge this Saturday coming off a great 31-12 win against North Alabama last week. Quarterback Eli Jenkins racked up 331 total yards, which includes 102 on the ground. Speaking of Auburn, Gamecocks running back and former Tiger Roc Thomas, rushed for 71 yards and three touchdowns on 20 touches.

Meanwhile, first-year running back Tyus Flakes carried the rock 12 times and finished with 72 rushing yards. Clearly, the Gamecocks can deal damage with their running game.

The Gamecocks also don’t look like a team that would cower under the pressure of facing an SEC heavyweight, partly because of Thomas and running back Josh Clemmons having experiences playing in that conference prior to transferring to Jacksonville State.

Betting on the LSU Tigers

You could say that Les Miles’ seat just added a little more to its already warm temperature after LSU lost its opening game to Wisconsin last Saturday, 16-14.

Not much has changed for the Tigers since last season based on the Wisconsin game. They remain a team too reliant on Leonard Fournette. Fournette rushed for 138 yards on 23 touchdowns but was unable to find the end zone. Quarterback Brandon Harris played like someone who didn’t improve from last season, passing for only 131 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions on 12 of 21 pass attempts. It would be very disappointing for the Tigers if Harris would be just as hot of a mess against a lighter Jacksonville State team this Saturday.

The Gamecocks’ defense however must be bracing for the impact of Fournette, who is poised for another spectacular showing. After ripping through the Badgers’ defense, there’s barely any doubt about the odds of him being better versus Jacksonville State.

LSU is 3-1 ATS in its last four games as the home team.
