Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (-10)

The Alabama Crimson Tide will head to their SEC showdown with Ole Miss with momentum on their side after trouncing the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, 38-10, on Saturday. It was another impressive victory for the Crimson Tide, who improved their season-record to 2-0. They have won their first two games by an average of 37 points.

Key to Alabama’s hot start has been their superb offense. The Crimson Tide are averaging 45 points per game this season, 24th in the entire FBS. Just like in their opening game against USC, it was Jalen Hurts who grabbed the headlines for the Crimson Tide against the Hilltoppers. He completed 23 of 36 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns without an interception on Saturday. He’s the first true freshman quarterback to start at Alabama since Vince Sutton started four games in 1984.

One thing that the Crimson Tide should worry about heading into their clash with the Rebels is their offensive line. Despite welcoming senior guard Alphonse Taylor back to the starting lineup, Alabama’s O-line struggled to generate any rushing lanes against Western Kentucky. The Tide averaged just 3.2 yards per attempt on Saturday. They also allowed Hurts to be dragged down for a pair of costly sacks.

Alabama is 9-1 SU and 4-5-1 ATS in its last 10 road games.

Betting on the Ole Miss Rebels (+10)

Ole Miss finally barged into the win column with an emphatic 38-13 victory over the Wofford Terriers on Saturday. It was a huge victory for the Rebels who bounced back from a disappointing season-opening loss to Florida State. Leading the way for Ole Miss in this match was Chad Kelly. Playing just five days after that emotional loss to the Seminoles, the quarterback finished with 219 yards and three touchdowns. It was an efficient performance from Kelly, who threw three picks and lost a fumble in the loss to Florida State.

Ole Miss will look to make it two wins in a row when they take on No. 1 Alabama this coming Saturday. The Rebels will have their work cut out for them, however, against an Alabama defense that has surrendered just 216.5 total yards per game this season. That’s the sixth-best mark in the FBS this year. For the Rebels to record an upset this coming weekend, they will need Markell Pack to continue his excellent play. He caught three passes for 46 yards and a touchdown Saturday against the Terriers. He will need to step up his play even more with freshman D.K. Metcalf now out for the season with a broken left foot.

The Rebels have already struggled with injuries this year with starting cornerback Kendarius Webster and running back Eric Swinney both tearing their knee ligaments against Florida State. Even with the injuries to these three stars, the Rebels will still fancy their chances against the Crimson Tide as they have fared extremely well against Alabama of late. They have handed Alabama its only regular-season loss in each of the last two years. Kelly threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns to lead Ole Miss past Alabama in last year’s game.

The Rebels are 9-1 SU and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Alabama (-10) wins, 34-20.
