Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (-20)

Record: 1-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference

Alabama showed no mercy to the Utah Aggies in a 55-0 victory at home last week. Bryce Young looked every bit the Heisman Trophy favorite this season, as he went 18/29 for 195 passing yards and five passing touchdowns while rushing for 100 yards and a touchdown on just five carries. Arguably the best quarterback in the nation. Young can look forward to another scintillating performance against the Longhorns. It’s also comforting for Alabama to think that it has a dominant defense to rely on. The Crimson Tide allowed just 136 total yards to Utah State, thanks to their defense that is led by Will Anderson, who had 17.5 sacks in 2021.

Alabama is 4-0 ATS in its last four non-conference games.

Betting on the Texas Longhorns (+20)

Record: 1-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference

The second year of the Steve Sarkisian era in Austin got off on the right foot with an easy 52-10 win at home over the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks. The Longhorns also covered the spread as 37.5-point home favorites. Quinn Ewers went 16/24 for two touchdowns and an interception against Louisiana-Monroe. It was not the smooth performance he should have had against a low-quality team like the Warhawks, but, at least he’s warmed up before taking on perennial powerhouse Alabama. In any case, the Longhorns are going to get running back Bijan Robinson plenty of work. He was eighth in the nation in 2021 with an average of 112.70 rushing yards per game. Also worth noting is the fact that the Longhorns are 7-1-1 all-time versus the Crimson Tide.

Texas is 7-1 ATS in its last eight non-conference games.

Writer’s Prediction

Alabama wins, 44-23.
