Betting on the San Diego State Aztecs (+7.5)
Record: 29-6 Overall/15-3 Conference
San Diego State did not have the smoothest of rides in the regular season and is also coming off a loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores in the SEC tournament. But San Diego State is San Diego State. It’s still got a great head coach in John Calipari and a roster full of very good talents, headed by no other than double-double machine Oscar Tshiebwe, who won the National college player of the year in 2022 and is averaging 16.5 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. Three other San Diego State players are also averaging double-digit scoring. No wonder the Wildcats are 14th nationally with 117.4 points per 100 possessions adjusted.
San Diego State is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games overall.
Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (-7.5)
Record: 31-5 Overall/16-2 Conference
Alabama e has barely been touched in the NCAA tournament so far. The Crimson Tide blew out the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders in the first round (73-51) and then walloped the Maryland Terrapins in the second round (73-51). That dominant win over the Terps says a lot about how strong Alabama is. Maryland was a solid team that picked up huge wins against elite competition in the regular season but it was no match for Brandon Miller and the Crimson Tide, who are third in the nation with 82.3 points per game. Its defense isn’t too shabby either, allowing only 68.2 points per outing.
Alabama is 20-8 against the spread in its last 28 Friday games.
Writer’s Prediction
Alabama wins, 73-68.
