Betting on the Georgia Bulldogs (+7.5)

So in the past two weeks, Georgia (3-0, 1-0 SEC) has won by a combined three points against Nicholls (an FCS school) and Mizzou, despite being a 53.5- and 7-point favorite, respectively. Obviously, that’s not good, but the Bulldogs will be underdogs for their visit to Ole Miss.

True freshman Jacob Eason got his first taste of an SEC road game against Mizzou, and came up big with 308 passing yards and 3 TDs. He also orchestrated the game-winning 10-play, 80-yard drive in just over two minutes against a very good defense to give Georgia the big 28-27 win.

With Georgia’s running game unable to get going over the past couple of weeks – star running back Nick Chubb is averaging just 3.7 yards per carry in his last two games – it’ll be huge for the Bulldogs offense to be able to get the ball moving through the air.

The Bulldogs also match up quite favorably to the Rebels defensively. Chad Kelly will throw all day long, and Georgia’s stellar secondary is capable of creating turnovers. The Bulldogs D has already forced eight turnovers through three games, including three interceptions against Mizzou.

Betting on the Ole Miss Rebels (-7.5)

If games were only 30 minutes long, Ole Miss (1-2, 0-1 SEC) would be 3-0. The Rebels took halftime leads against two championship-caliber teams in Florida State and Alabama, but allowed both to stage second half comebacks.

Still, this Ole Miss team is so explosive offensively. Despite enduring a ton of pressure all game, Chad Kelly still burned the Tide’s pass defense for 421 yards and three touchdowns. He should have significantly less pressure to deal with going up against a tepid Georgia pass rush.

That means more time for him to target his multiple receiving weapons. Tight end Evan Engram is almost unguardable at this point. The senior racked up 18 catches for 259 yards and two touchdowns against FSU and Bama.

If this Ole Miss offense gets off to another fast start against Georgia, it’ll be in a much better position to hold onto it. Despite Eason’s heroics last weekend, he’s still a true freshman on the road with not a ton of weapons at receiver. And if he gets down big early and is forced to throw, he’ll have a very talented Ole Miss pass rush teeing off on him down after down.

Writer’s Prediction

The Ole Miss defense makes life tough for Eason, while the offense continues to put up points. The Rebels (-7.5) win and cover at home, 35-24.
