Betting on the Arizona State Sun Devils (+10)
Arizona State is off to a red hot start. Mind you, they began their year against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (who?). There’s a gimme right there as they won with ease 44-13. They then faced Texas Tech, Texas San Antonio and California in their next three and beat all of them. The Sun Devils do not have a rich history as of late but are looking like they may be the real deal in 2016. They will definitely be in the Pac-12 conversation to the very end and are already 1-0 in their conference.
This game will mark either the continued downfall of USC or the comeback of the team following last week’s embarrassing 31-27 loss to Utah putting them out to a 1-3 start. Arizona State is a much better team than the Utes (in our opinion) and ASU has a tremendous shot at not only beating the spread but also taking down the heavily favored Trojans.
Led by running backs Demario Richard, Manny Wilkins and Kalen Ballage (who is second in the country with nine rushing td’s), the Sun Devil ground game should have a good time with the holes in USC’s defense. The same defense that currently sits third-worst in the conference with 117 points against this season.
ASU are 3-1-0 Against the Spread but are 0-1 on the road.
Betting on the USC Trojans (-10)
The USC Trojans are facing a lot of rough press right now. As mentioned, they dropped last week’s decision with No. 24 Utah and are on a two-game losing streak after also getting spanked by Stanford 27-10. The team has one win this year and it came at home against Utah State. We don’t want to mention it but we have to – the Trojans were also decimated in week one 52-6 by No. 1 Alabama.
The team will have to rely heavily on their lone bright spot senior Justin Davis. The running back is averaging 5.7 yards per carry and has tallied 261 yards thus far on the ground. Meanwhile, at quarterback, there is a mess in the making. Actually, the mess has already been made. There’s a QB by committee situation because neither slinger has shown number one capability just yet. Max Browne started the season for the Trojans but after three brutal performances, the team turned to Sam Darnold. Each guy has tossed two touchdowns and have combined for three picks and seven sacks through four games.
USC needs this game to turn start to turn their season around. They’ll be in tough with ASU but the school always seems to step it up on their home turf – a place where they’re 1-0 this season.
The Trojans are 1-3-0 ATS this season.
