All the Warriors did last season was break the all-time records in regular season wins, road wins, best start, and longest home win streak to name a few. In other words, the Warriors had a magical season—except the very end of it, where the only magic we witnessed was their 3-1 Finals series lead suddenly vaporizing into thin air.

Despite the bitter conclusion of their 2015-16 season, the Warriors are undeniably the favorites to go and win it all this time around. They’re priced at -175 to finish the job they didn’t last June and come back to Bay Area with a downtown parade waiting for them.

It’s easy to see why the Warriors are so hyped to win the title again. Aside from the fact that their 2015 championship core is still intact in the trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, the team’s front office also somehow managed to lure Kevin Durant into joining Curry and crew. With Durant on board, it appears as though the Dubs are preparing to win a basketball tournament outside this planet because adding him to a team that already has Stephen Curry looks unfair on paper.

See, Curry and Durant have three MVP Awards between them. Not only that, they were also No. 1 and 2 in player efficiency rating last season, respectively. The new-look Warriors now have three players that finished inside the top 10 of efficiency in the 2015-16 campaign, which includes Draymond Green.

So much is the expectation for the Warriors this season that oddsmakers have set their regular season wins total line at 66.0. Last season, that was at 60.5.

The Warriors’ new death lineup, however, is neither a guarantee that they’ll recapture the league title nor a free pass for setting a new regular season wins record.

As pointed out by FiveThirtyEight.com, among the Warriors’ biggest obstacles of achieving more than 73 wins is regression. History has it that out of the 10 teams ever to win the 67 or more regular season contests, only one managed to surpass their previous win total the next year. In addition, FiveThirtyEight also tossed out the idea that Durant might not add too much to the team since the Warriors have little room for improvement in terms of efficiency given the success they had last season with almost the same set of starters.

No matter how you look at it, these Warriors are going to be fun to watch and follow this coming NBA season indeed.
