Potato History
Contrary to popular belief, the Potato’s first reign came from an area between southern Peru and Northwest Bolivia. You can admit that you were thinking Ireland just now, but oh no! In fact, it’s estimated that the first spuds date all the way back to somewhere between 8000 and 5000 BC. So, with that said, it’s very likely that Jesus Christ enjoyed some delicious potatoes at some point. Did we mention above that now you can too?
Idaho History
Originally owned by both the United States and Great Britain, Idaho was also once a part of Oregon. It wasn’t until 1846 that the USA took over the state. Then on March 4th, 1863 came the creation of the Idaho Territory. Now with an estimated 1.7 million people, it is the 39th most populated state. At 83,569 square miles (216,440 km2) it is also the 14th largest state in the United States of America.
Idaho Potato History
The earliest potatoes planted in Idaho hit the dirt in 1838. They then exceeded one million bushels by 1900. The state continued their potato progression into the new century and by 1920 produced two-thirds of the country’s potato output. In 1937, the Idaho Potato Commission was founded with it’s main rule, promote and protect the Idaho grown spud. The ‘Grown in Idaho’ seal started branding boxes and sacks in 1959 – it continues to be visible and evident to this day.
There we go. Now that you know more about potatoes, perhaps winning some this Christmas will be the way to go. You can either take home nine three-pound boxes or a $150 real money credit to your account – all you have to do is lay down a wager!
