Betting on the Washington Nationals (21-10)
The Nationals saw their four-game win streak end Sunday with a 6-5 road loss in extra innings to Philadelphia though that shouldn’t diminish much Washington’s status as one of the best teams in the league today.
They will look to get back to their winning ways with Gio Gonzalez on the mound tonight. Gonzalez is undefeated so far this year with a 3-0 record to go with a National League-best 1.64 ERA. He’s struggling with control a bit though, as he’s fourth in the league with 18 walks, including seven in his last start, a 2-1 win over Arizona at home.
Gonzalez’s success could be partially attributed to Washington’s offense that has always been there behind him. Gonzalez is getting 7.04 worth of run support per inning innings.
Washington, which has scored 19 runs over its last four games, is 2-2 in their last four trips to Camden Yards.
Betting on the Baltimore Orioles (20-10)
After sweeping the White Sox in a three-game home stand, Baltimore eyes to extend its win streak to five games against the visiting Nationals.
Like Washington, the Orioles’ offense is on some kind of level right now. They’ve put up 22 runs over their last five outings. That stretch includes the team’s 4-0 win over the White Sox on Sunday to close out the series.
Kevin Gausman would like for O’s hitters to remain hot as he takes the hill tonight. Gausman lasted just one inning in his most recent start in which he was ejected in the second inning of last week’s 4-2 road loss to Boston. Gausman is just 1-3 so far with a 7.55 ERA in seven starts.
Facing Gonzalez would be a challenge for the Orioles but the Washington pitcher has been susceptible to the long ball, which Baltimore could capitalize on. Gonzalez has allowed a homer in each of his last four starts. On the flipside, the O’s are sixth in the American League in homers with 36. Manny Machado paces the team with eight blasts. Machado is also 4-for-10 in his career opposite Gonzalez.
Writer’s Prediction
Baltimore (-115) wins, 6-4.
