Betting on the Tampa Bay Rays (60-62)

Moneyline: -160

The reeling Rays returned to the losing column with their 3-2 loss to the Blue Jays Wednesday night. It was their ninth loss in 12 games.

Chris Archer will be stepping up next on the mound to help end the slump, although hopes couldn’t be that high. Despite allowing a respectable six runs in 13 hits and six walks across 21 innings versus the ‘Jays on the year, the fifth-year pro is 8-7 with a 3.84 ERA in 25 appearances this season, and the Rays have also lost in four of his last six starts. Toronto’s roster is also hitting a fairly decent .278 against him all-time (62-for-294), with 10 home runs and 33 RBIs.

The offense can’t be expected to be to much of an aid as well, as they are a woeful .197 in the past week. Logan Morrison was their best batter in that span stat-wise, and he’s only 7-for-27 with zero homers and one RBI.

Betting on the Toronto Blue Jays (58-62)

Moneyline: -145

The Blue Jays are on an opposite direction. Following the win, they have now won four of their last five, with all but one also concluding with them only surrendering two runs or less.

Rookie Chris Rowley, who only has one major league game under his belt, is the team’s projected starter for tomorrow. The first-year pitcher had a great pro debut this past weekend against the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he threw for 5.1 innings and gave up just one run on five hits and one walk.

Batting-wise, the ‘Jays will continue eyeing former American League MVP Josh Donaldson for production. The seven-year vet now has four-straight outings with two hits, and he’s 8-for-18 with three dingers and seven RBI in that stretch.

Toronto leads the season series by a hair-thin margin, 8-7.

Writer’s Prediction

Rowley has another fine outing, and helps the ‘Jays (-160) win again, 5-2.
