Betting on Real Madrid (-675)
Real Madrid finally lost their recent unbeaten record against city rivals Atletico in the Champions League as they fell 2-1 in the second leg on Wednesday. However, that result was still more than enough to see them through to a third Champions League final in four years.
Real must now set their sights on winning the league, where they are currently tied at the top with Barcelona. They still hold the advantage over their rivals with one game in hand, but they must be wary of dropping points to Sevilla, which is by far their toughest remaining fixture.
Real don’t have a habit of dropping too many points at home, though. They have a 13-4-1 record at the Bernabeu this season, with 44 goals scored and only 19 conceded.
Meanwhile, Real’s utter domination of Sevilla at home over the years cannot be ignored. Real have won their last nine La Liga and Copa del Rey home games against Sevilla. Over their last five league meetings, Real have outscored Sevilla, 20-5.
Betting on Sevilla (+1,000)
Sevilla don’t have too much left to play for this season seeing as they’re essentially locked into the fourth Champions League spot. That lack of motivation has probably been a factor in their recent slide. After losing 4-2 away to Malaga, they drew 1-1 at home to Real Sociedad. They are just 3-3-3 in their last nine games.
That loss to Malaga was indicative of Sevilla’s struggles away from home this season. They’re 7-5-6 on their travels, and have gone winless in their last five (three losses, two draws).
However, a chance to spoil Madrid’s championship hopes could be enough to give Sevilla’s troops enough motivation for this match. And with Madrid possibly a bit leggy after an intense derby matchup against Atletico in midweek, Sevilla’s high-pressure style of play has the potential to get Madrid off their game.
Writer’s Prediction
Real don’t look great, but they have enough to beat Sevilla 2-1 at home. Take the total to go UNDER 4.5 goals
