Tonight in MLB, the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets are set to face off for the first time since last year’s NLCS. And in the NBA, the Golden State Warriors will get another chance to close out the Cleveland Cavaliers and win the NBA championship at home in Game 5.

MLB World Series News and Previews

Chicago Cubs vs. New York Mets (7:10 PM ET)

Line: Chicago Cubs (+110) at New York Mets (-120); total 8.5 – view all MLB lines

The struggling Cubs just avoided a four-game series sweep against the Colorado Rockies as they won yesterday, 7-5. However, they’re set to go back on the road, where they’ve lost their last eight in a row, and were swept in back-to-back three-game series by the Dodgers and Padres at the end of May. The struggling John Lackey will also be on the mound. The veteran has given up five earned runs in three of his last four starts, and took decision losses in those games.

Meanwhile, the Mets will be on the upswing after winning three in a row against the Atlanta Braves. New York has gotten some uncharacteristically good pitching, as they held the Braves bats to just one run in all three games. Ace Jacob deGrom will look to continue that recent trend, but the righty has given up 15 earned runs in just eight innings over his last two starts.

Writer’s Prediction

The Mets (-120) draw first blood in the series as they get to Lackey.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Golden State Warriors (9:00 PM ET)

Line: Cleveland Cavaliers (+8.5) at Golden State Warriors (-8.5); total 231.0 – view all NBA lines

The Cavs turned in a historic performance in Game 4 to stave off a sweep at the hands of the Warriors. Cleveland set new Finals records for most points in a quarter (49) and a half (86) and also set a new playoff record with 24 three-pointers. Kyrie Irving and JR Smith finally came alive in Cleveland after struggling in the first two games on the road and they must continue to shoot the ball well in order to keep the series alive.

As for the Dubs, they could definitely play much better. Splash Brothers Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson struggled in Game 4, as they combined for just 27 points on 8-of-24 shooting. Their defense could also use some tightening up after coming loose in Cleveland. The Warriors, though, have an excellent 97.8 defensive rating in eight home playoff games. They’ve gone 3-0 ATS in their last three games at Oracle.

Writer’s Prediction

The Warriors finally clinch this time around, but the Cavs (+8.5) push them hard and cover the spread.
