John Isner

Can John Isner make it two in a row? That’s the question on everybody’s lips heading into this week’s Tour event at Washington D.C. Isner powered his way to the Atlanta title last week, beating Ryan Harrison in two grueling tie-breaks in the final. With that victory, Isner passed Jack Sock to become the top American man in the tennis rankings. Isner, the No. 9 seed, was a finalist in the Citi Open back in 2015.

Daniil Medvedev

Among the fresh faces this week, the one to watch out for is the big-serving Daniil Medvedev. The Russian star recently broke into the top 50 in the world rankings after a season that saw the 21-year-old reach his first ATP World Tour final in Chennai and the semis at Eastbourne in addition to upsetting Stan Wawrinka in the first round at this year’s Wimbledon Championships. He will face the 6-foot-11 Reilly Opelka in the first round in an intriguing Next Gen contest.

Mischa Zverev

Mischa Zverev has already proven this season that there’s still room for a serve-and-volley player in the ATP Tour. Just last week, he achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 25. Zverev, who’s 19-21 on the ATP Tour this season, will face Kevin Anderson in the second round. Zverev will need to improve on his form on the hard courts if he is to make a deep run in this tournament. The 29-year-old German has won just seven of his 16 hard court matches this year.
