Betting on the Miami Dolphins (1-1)
The Miami Dolphins were simply decked by the Baltimore Ravens, 31-7, in Jay Cutler’s debut. Cutler was understandably a bit rusty in his first preseason appearance, going just 3-of-6 for 24 yards.
The other three quarterbacks the Dolphins used – Matt Moore, Brandon Doughty, and David Fales, didn’t fare much better, though. Those three combined for just 66 total passing yards, while the ground game could only muster 46 total rushing yards.
However, Cutler reportedly looked pretty good in joint practice with the Eagles, which bodes well for his performance at Philly. But still, he likely won’t play more than a half, while the remainder of the snaps will go to the other three inconsistent QBs.
It’s also tough to expect anything much from the Fins’ floundering running game, which has failed to pick up three yards per carry in each of their first two preseason games.
Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (1-1)
The Eagles bounced back well from their heavy 24-9 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 1 of preseason to edge out the Buffalo Bills, 20-16, at home in Week 2.
Second-year starting QB Carson Wentz has gone an impressive 10-of-13 through the first two games, but backup QBs Matt McGloin and Dane Evans haven’t been as great. And despite the two backups each giving up an interception against Buffalo, the Eagles D had four takeaways of their own. Newly-acquired cornerback Ronald Darby had a nice revenge game against his old team as he had one of the Eagles’ three picks.
With the Eagles offense playing subpar football through the first two weeks, it’ll be up to the Philly D to once again prop up the team against Miami. While the front seven gave up 5.2 yards per carry to the Bills, they did pick up six more sacks to add to the five sacks they recorded against the Packers.
Writer’s Prediction
The Eagles (-3.5) continue to terrorize opposing quarterbacks as they beat the Dolphins.
