What do you know? The New England Patriots are winless this preseason, while teams like the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions are undefeated. Well, the Pats could put an end to their losing skid tonight when they lock horns with the Lions. It’s more serious in the MLB, though, as the Milwaukee Brewers eye to cut the Chicago Cubs’ lead in the NL Central, as they kick off a three-game series with the majors-leading Los Angeles Dodgers in Chavez Ravine.

New England Patriots vs. Detroit Lions (7:00 AM ET)
Line: New England Patriots (-2.5) vs. Detroit Lions (+2.5); total: 43.5 – view all NFL lines
Preseason Patriots are different from regular preseason Patriots. That’s as much as anyone could tell with New England going 0-2 SU in their first two legs of these glorified practice games. The Pats are coming off a 27-23 road loss to the Houston Texans. But with more regular season starters expected to play in this game, the Pats should present a better challenge to Detroit. (Pats are even faves in this contest.) Speaking of the Lions, they’ve been the opposite of New England in the preseason, as they are 2-0 SU so far. They took down the New York Jets at home last Saturday, 16-6, and will be looking to remain undefeated when they take on the defending Super Bowl champs.
Writer’s Prediction
New England (-2.5) finally breaks through the win column with a 25-21 win.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (10:15 PM ET)
Line: Milwaukee Brewers (+165) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (-185); total: 8.0 – view all MLB lines
A Dodgers’ loss has been baseball’s equivalent to a solar eclipse, as it has become a truly rare occurrence this year. That’s exactly what the Brewers are aiming to hang on LA later tonight, though, when they send Chase Anderson (7-2, 2.83 ERA) to the mound. Anderson appears very capable of hurting the Dodgers after going 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA in his past three starts. The Dodgers, on the other hand, will have Kenta Maeda toeing the rubber in Game 1 of the series. Maeda (11-5, 3.38 ERA) absorbed a loss in his last start, allowing four earned runs on five hits in six innings of a 6-1 road loss to Detroit on Aug. 20.
Writer’s Prediction
Milwaukee (+165) gets a 5-4 win.
