Hostilities between the Yankees and the Orioles resume this afternoon after Wednesday’s downpours postponed their series finale. Sonny Gray and Kevin Gausman will still get the start for both sides who are locked in a tight battle in the race for the AL Wild Card. Only 3.5 games separate New York and Baltimore in the team standings. Gray is just 2-4 in six starts since being traded to the Bronx Bombers. He allowed three homers in his last start against the Boston Red Sox. Gausman, on the other hand, has a 3.04 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 85 strikeouts and seven wins over his last 13 starts (77 innings).

Writer’s Prediction

The Yankees edge past the Orioles, 5-3.

Minnesota Twins vs. Kansas City Royals (8:15 PM ET)

Line: Minnesota Twins at Kansas City Royals – view all MLB lines

The Minnesota Twins finally snapped their three-game losing skid with a 10-6 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday. It was a morale-boosting win for the Twins who moved a half-game ahead of the Los Angeles Angels for the second and final wild card spot in the American League. The Twins will look to consolidate that advantage when they face the Kansas City Royals tonight. The Twins have lost six of their last eight games against their AL Central rivals.

Starting for Minnesota in this all-important clash is Kyle Gibson. He pitched six shutout innings in his last start against the Royals, recording five strikeouts and no walks. The Twins won that encounter, 17-0. The Royals, on the other hand, will have Sam Gaviglio as their starter tonight. Gaviglio, who will be making his Kansas City debut in the series opener, was 3-5 with a 4.62 ERA in 12 games (11 starts) with the Seattle Mariners this season.

Writer’s Prediction

Minnesota wins, 5-2.
