Betting on the Oakland Raiders (2-0)
As expected, the Raiders are still hot entering 2017. They came into the new year with a healthy Derek Carr and massive added asset in Marshawn Lynch. Beast Mode made headlines last game against the Jets and won a lot of hearts (as if he hadn’t before) with his sideline dancing.
That was really just a weak excuse to put a link to his dancing online. In any case, the Raiders strong defense led by Khalil Mack should continue to feast against a shaky Redskins offense. Last game Rob Kelley finally started to find his legs, but left with injury and missed the second half. Samaje Perine did a pretty brutal job replacing him. Jordan Reed left the game a little beaten up and Josh Norman even spent a few plays rehabbing on the sidelines.
Whether they can dress a full healthy team or not isn’t the issue though. The Raiders are the better team and that’s really all it comes down to. Mack and the defense should feast on the inaccurate and easily hurried Kirk Cousins.
If the Raiders offense can stay consistent, at the least, they shouldn’t have too tough of a time walking away with a 3-0 record. A continued winning streak will be key for Oakland as well because Denver definitely won’t show any signs of slowing down against Buffalo. Meanwhile, the Chiefs will also likely have their way with the Chargers. So, to keep pace in arguably the toughest division in football, Oakland will have come out with all guns firing in this one.
Betting on the Washington Redskins (1-1)
The Redskins won’t have the same divisional pressure on them, but they will still be in the hunt for a little bit of redemption. Sure, they have a win, but it was a lucky one. It came down to the dying minutes for the Rams to surrender to the Skins and they were following a even more pitiful effort against the Eagles in Week 1. The Redskins do not look like as dangerous as they did at times last season. They look like they’ve taken a step back and don’t have every facet in game shape.
As mentioned, Rob Kelley began posting decent numbers last week on the ground before he left early with an injury. He was really the only bright spot though. Terrell Pryor has been a non-factor and Jordan Reed has been subpar compared to his usual self thus far. If the Redskins can put a solid effort together though – something that they’re very capable of doing – this could be one heck of a football game.
On paper it looks like a Raider triumph, but don’t get too carried away just yet. Washington has the skill and the assets to surprise and this week very well may be the time that they put all the pieces together.
