Betting on the Arizona Cardinals (+5.5)

Regular Season Record: 0-1

“It’s a long season. We got punched in the mouth. How do you respond?” That’s what Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray said after their 44-21 home loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1. Arizona simply couldn’t stop the barrage of points from Patrick Mahomes and company, while the Cardinals struggled to extend plays on the other end of the field, highlighted by their 3/12 showing on third downs. The Cardinals have the talent to keep up with any team on offense, but they will have to execute better and perhaps utilize more Zach Ertz and AJ Green in the passing attack. The two vets combined for only eight targets in Week 1 despite Arizona already trailing big early. Expect that to improve in Week 2.

The Cardinals are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games as an underdog.

Arizona Cardinals

Betting on the Las Vegas Raiders (-5.5)

Regular Season Record: 0-1

The Raiders were not able to get a win in Davante Adams’ debut with the team, as they lost to the Los Angeles Chargers on the road in Week 1, 24-19. Derek Carr passed for 295 yards and two touchdowns on 22/37 completions but was intercepted three times. There might be some chemistry issues on offense for the Raiders, given the starters didn’t play much together on the field in the preseason. They should be more on the same page in Week 2 after that loss in Week 1. Adams, who had 141 receiving yards and a touchdown on 10 catches against the Chargers, should be a handful for Kansas City’s defense that wasn’t really tested in Week 1.

The Raiders are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games in Week 2.

Writer’s Prediction

The Raiders win, 28-24.
