Minnesota Vikings vs Chicago Bears Predictions, Picks, Odds and Betting Preview – NFL Week 5 2017

The Minnesota Vikings have won six of the last nine games straight up over their NFC North rivalry, going 6-3 against the spread (ATS). Both squads currently have quarterback issues, which will make for an interesting matchup that will rely heavily on defense.

Betting on the Minnesota Vikings 2-2 (-3.5)

The Vikings are a bit all over the place at this point in the season. The have flip-flopped wins/losses through each week thus far, which in theory would give them the victory here in Week 5 (and a loss in the next). In theory.

Let’s look at last week.

Minnesota was beating the Lions by a score of 7-3 at halftime, but gave up 11 points to Detroit in the opening of the third quarter, where they lost fumbles on back-to-back possessions. They followed that up with a missed field goal and lost out on another opportunity that had them cozy on the Lions’ 3-yard line. The Vikings would then lose a third fumble (picture Mike Zimmer face palming) after a completion inside Detroit territory with just under two minutes left in the game.

Positive takeaways (yes, there were some) included the fact that they outgained Detroit 294-251, while their defense recorded five sacks, limiting the Lions to just one TD.

Betting on the Chicago Bears 1-3 (+3.5)

The Bears’ one shining light came from an overtime upset (7-point underdog) against the Steelers in Week 3, but were back to poor form in Week 4 as they dropped another game to Green Bay with a 35-14 loss. On a positive note, The Bears outgained the Packers by a total of 308-260, holding a 32-28 advantage in the time of possession. But turnovers were the turning point, directly resulting in 21 points for the opponent.

Rookie Mitchell Trubisky will be throwing, and week 5 props look to running back Jordan Howard to record a touchdown tonight. Will either make a difference?

Writer’s Prediction

Believe it or not, the Bears are going to claw their way to a victory here. Minnesota is without rookie running back Dalvin Cook (knee injury) while Chicago is 2-0 against-the-spread this year as an underdog at home.
