Betting on the Kentucky Wildcats (11-2)

The Kentucky Wildcats (currently 12-2, 2-0 SEC) beat down Louisville at home in their annual showdown, then followed that up to beat Georgia at home and LSU on the road. They’re feeling pretty good about themselves as they head to Tennessee before returning home to host Texas A&M.

The Wildcats are fairly deep, having someone different lead the charge each game mentioned above, and while that is a positive, someone needs to fill the role as team leader. The going is going to get tough as the league season progresses and without that special someone to carry the team through those tough times, the whole thing may fall apart.

But maybe we’re being nit picky? The Wildcats are also showing strength on defense, allowing just an average of 66 points in their last three games. Maybe they can make their way into March Madness without one key figurehead?

Betting on the Tennessee Volunteers (9-4)

After a clunker against Auburn this week, the Volunteers are devoting their time to extra defense in practice (so our insiders tell us) so that they can return to a rep of being a tough defensive nut to crack. All is not lost for the No. 22 ranked Vols who are 9-4 overall and 0-2 in the SEC, but things aren’t going to get any easier with the schedule ahead, and with the Wildcats coming to town.

It’s worth noting that sophomore point guard Jordan Bone had an off week due to a case of the flu, which will have passed as we enter Saturday’s game. Bone had three high-scoring games in a row by the end of Tuesday night’s loss to Auburn, so when the young man is healthy, the scoring potential will go up further and could provide the edge the Vols need to keep this one close.

Writer’s Prediction

The Wildcats will win this but Jordan Bone is going to have a big game now that’s he’s shaken off the cold sweats. Between his numbers and a ramped up defense the Volunteers will get the points. Pick: Wildcats for the win, not the cover.
