Betting on the Xavier Musketeers (25-4)
Cincinnati will give it another try in putting the handcuffs on the Shockers’ offense. The Bearcats suffered a 76-72 loss at the hands of Wichita State at home on Feb. 18, as they failed to control Wichita State’s offense. Cincinnati lives by its ability to suffocate opponents with its defense that allows just 57.2 points per game. Only the Virginia Cavaliers have a better defense in college basketball than the Bearcats – at least on paper. Cincinnati limits opposing teams to only 37.1 field goal shooting percentage. The Bearcats need to limit the Shockers’ backcourt (more on that later), which was Cincy’s biggest headache in the first meeting. On offense, the Bearcats are scoring 76.0 points per game and are making 37 of their shots from the three-point area. Jacob Evans lead the team with 13.4 points per game. He had 16 in the Wichita State game.
Betting on the DePaul Blue Demons (11-17)
The days of Fred Van Vleet and Ron Baker are long gone for the Shockers, but not those of great point guard play. Landry Shamet has been steady at the point for the Shockers, and he came up big in the win over Cincinnati. Shamet scored 19 points in that game and added five assists and four rebounds. He also had three three-pointers. Shamet is averaging 14.6 points and 5.1 rebounds for the Shockers, who are 11th in Division I basketball with 84.2 points per contest. Shamet aside, Center Shaquille Morris is also poised to give Cincy troubles again. Morris scored 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting against the Bearcats, and he could even do better this Sunday with the game happening at home. The Shockers need to cut down on their turnovers, though, as Cincinnati had them commit 15 errors in the first matchup.
Writer’s Prediction
