Game 1: April 5, 6:35 PM ET

Starters: Andrew Cashner (0-0) vs. Masahiro Tanaka (1-0)

Pitching:

Cashner was rocked hard on the mound in his Orioles debut on Mar. 31, when he allowed four earned runs on six hits allowed including three home runs in 5.0 innings of duty of a 6-2 loss at home to the Minnesota Twins. He also issued two walks and dished out five strikeouts. He will look to get his first win as an Orioles. Masahiro Tanaka, meanwhile, will chase for his second win of the season after getting the W in his first start. Against the Toronto Blue Jays on Mar. 30, Tanaka looked sharp in six innings of mound duty, fanning out eight batters with no walks and allowing just an earned run on three hits in a 4-2 road win.

Hitting:

Adam Jones is 7-for-21 with a double in his career against Tanaka.

Aaron Hicks is 3-for-3 with a double in his career against Cashner.

Writer’s Prediction:

New York wins, 6-2.

Game 2: April 6, 7:05 PM ET

Starters: Kevin Gausman (0-1) vs. CC Sabathia (0-0)

Pitching:

Like Cashner, Gausman was also shelled in his first start of the year, as he got tagged with six earned runs on seven hits – including three blasts – in just four innings of a 7-0 loss home loss to the Twins on Apr. 1. Unfortunately for Gausman, that loss was not part of April Fool’s Day, but at least he could bounce back this Friday against the Yankees. He is 3-3 with a 4.06 ERA in 11 total game appearances (8 starts) at Yankee Stadium dating back to 2013. As for Sabathia, the rotund Yankee hurler is searching for his first win of the season after coming up short in a Mar. 31 road start against the Blue Jays that resulted to a 5-3 loss. He pitched in just five innings of that game and allowed two runs (one unearned) on five hits with four strikeouts and two free passes dealt. So far in his career, he is 19-10 with a 3.56 ERA in 41 total starts against Baltimore.

Hitting

Adam Jones is a career .337 hitter (24-for-79 with five homers) against Sabathia.

Aaron Judge is 6-for-12 lifetime with three home runs against Gausman.

Writer’s Prediction:

Baltimore wins, 5-4.

Game 3: April 7, 1:05 PM ET

Starters: Chris Tillman (0-1) vs. Sonny Gray (0-0)

Pitching:

Tillman went winless against the Yankees last season, going 0-2 with an embarrassing 19.29 ERA in three appearances (two starts) versus the Bronx Bombers in 2017. He wasn’t great in his first start this year either, as he allowed four earned runs on seven hits with four walks and zero strikeouts in four innings of a 6-1 road loss to the Houston Astros. Gray, on the other hand, went 1-1 last year in two starts against the Orioles, collecting a 4.66 ERA in 9.2 innings. He picked up a no-decision in his season debut on Apr. 1, when he tossed four innings of one-run ball on seven hits to go with eight strikeouts and three walks allowed.

Hitting

The current composition of the Orioles’ lineup has a collective career batting average of .308 against Gray.

Didi Gregorius is 11-for-20 (.550) with five doubles, a triple, and a homer in his career against Tillman.

Writer’s Prediction:

New York wins. 7-4.

Game 4: April 8, 1:05 PM ET

Starters: Mike Wright (0-0) vs. Jordan Montgomery (0-0)

Pitching:

As of this writing, Wright and Montgomery are yet to make their season debuts against the Houston Astros and the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday, respectively. Although he spent his entire 2017 in the bullpen last season, he was originally used by the Orioles as a starter in his first two seasons in the league (2015, 2016). In 21 total career starts then, Wright went 6-9 with a 5.86 ERA. Montgomery, meanwhile, made five starts against the O’s in 2017 and went 2-1 with a 6.67 ERA.

Hitting:

The Orioles hit just .200 against Montgomery last season.

The Yankees are 6-for-17 (.353) overall against Wright.

Writer’s Prediction:

New York wins, 6-2.

Writer’s Overall Series Prediction

The New York Yankees dominate the series over the Baltimore Orioles, going 3-1 overall.
