There’s also some concern regarding the availability of outfielder Kevin Kiermaier for Thursday’s matchup after he left early from Wednesday’s contest because of an Achilles inflammation. In the first meeting this season with the Yankees starter, the Rays recorded four runs off him in a 4-2 win late last May.

In two starts so far this month of June, Severino has allowed just an earned run on 8 hits with 20 strikeouts across 13.0 innings of action. Overall this season, he is 4-1 with a 2.80 ERA and 1.03 WHIP, plus he’ll be pitching in front of the Yankees’ offense that is leading the majors in wRC+ and wOBA.
