Betting on the Washington Capitals (-1.5)

Russians have taken over for Washington in the playoffs with Alexander Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov doing the heavy lifting but on Monday, an American in T.J. Oshie came out the biggest (arguably) in the Caps’ victory. Oshie scored the game’s first goal and assisted in two others. He now has six points in the series (1 goal, 5 assists). Ovi and Kuz, however, still played a big role in the win with the former recording an assist and the latter had four goals. Kuznetsov now has 31 points in the postseason, tied for second-most by a player in the last 20 years. The Caps’ special teams also woke up, scoring on three of five power play chances. Washington now has converted on four of their 12 PP opportunities in the series, which isn’t a good sign for Vegas. Braden Holtby, meanwhile, put up another stellar performance, holding the Golden Knights to two or fewer goals in each game since Game 2.

The Caps are 7-3 in their last 10 road games.

Betting on the Vegas Golden Knights (-1.5)

Marc-Andre Fleury needs to recapture the form he flashed in previous rounds in the playoffs, which the Golden Knights so desperately needs right now. Fleury was lit up for six goals in Game 4, and has now conceded a total of 16 goals in this Stanley Cup Finals, despite facing fewer shots than Holtby in three of the four games in the series so far. Speaking of which, the Golden Knights have been getting plenty of scoring chances. It’s just that they could not convert. But the fact that they’re getting looks at the net suggests that Vegas is going to get it going soon. In Game 2, they had more scoring chances than Washington (31-21) and a sizable advantage in high-danger chances (13-8). Vegas’ top scorer in the playoffs, Jonathan Marchessault, will have to step up. Marchessault has yet to net a goal in the series with only two assists to show.

The Golden Knights are 8-2 in their last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction
