After collecting seven straight losses, Junis finally did not get the same faith on July 21, as he got a no-decision in a 4-2 win over Minnesota at home. Against the Twins, Junis surrendered an earned run on four hits in 4.0 innings of duty in the mound. He is 2-3 with a 4.50 ERA in seven road starts. Gray seems to be getting his rhythm now, as he has allowed just two earned runs on six hits in 11.1 total innings over his last two starts. He is 2-1 with a 4.73 ERA in three starts this month.

  • Aaron Hicks is 3-for-3 vs. Junis.
  • Hunter Dozier is 2-for-3 vs, Gray.

Game 2: Friday, July 27, 7:05PM ET

Starters: Brad Keller (3-4, 3.20 ERA) vs. CC Sabathia (6-4, 3.51 ERA)

Pitching:

Keller had one of his better starts of the year on July 22, when he allowed just three earned runs on three hits in 7.0 innings of a 5-3 home win over Minnesota. He is 1-4 with a 3.31 ERA in 15 total appearances on the road this season. Sabathia is didn’t get a decision in his last start, allowing four earned runs on four hits in 5.2 innings of a 5-4 road win over Cleveland on July 14. Sabathia is 4-1 with a 2.59 ERA in 10 starts.

Hitting:

  • The current Yankees lineup has a collective 0-for-3 line against Keller.
  • Whit Merrifield is 4-for-8 vs, Sabathia.

Writer’s Prediction:

Yankees win, 5-4.


Game 3: Saturday, July 28, 1:05PM ET

Starters: Heath Fillmyer (0-1, 2.82 ERA) vs. Luis Severino (14-3, 2.63 ERA)

Pitching:

In his second start of the season, Fillmyer allowed an earned run on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts in 6.2 innings of a 5-4 home loss to Detroit on July 23. He has a 3.24 ERA in 8.1 innings pitched on the road this season. Severino picked up a rare loss in his last start, as he gave up six earned runs on 11 hits in 5.0 innings of a 7-6 loss in Tampa Bay on July 23. He will look to bounce back this Saturday at Yankee Stadium, where he is 8-0 with a 1.64 ERA in 10 starts.

Hitting:

  • Whit Merrifield is 2-for-6 vs. Severino.

Game 4: Sunday, July 29, 1:05PM ET

Starters: Burch Smith (1-1, 5.58 ERA) vs. Masahiro Tanaka (8-2, 4.09 ERA)

Pitching:

Smith got his first win of the season, as he limited the Tigers to just two runs on a hit in 6.1 innings of a 5-4 victory at home on July 24. That performance should give him momentum heading into a road start in New York, He is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 20.0 innings pitched on the road this season. As for Tanaka, the Japanese star was simply sensational in his last start, pitching a complete game shutout with nine strikeouts in a 4-0 road win over Tampa Bay on July 24. The Yankees are 8-2 in Tanaka’s last 10 home starts.

Hitting:

  • The Yankees are 3-for-8 collectively vs, Smith.
  • Cheslor Cuthbert is 2-for-3 vs. Tanaka.
