The Reds are extremely unlikely to make the postseason, but they are on some kind of groove at the moment. Cincinnati is on a four-game win streak, having defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 7 before sweeping the Tampa Bay Rays in a three-game set at home. Now comes the challenge of the mighty Yankees waiting for the Reds, who will have Graham Ashcraft starting this Tuesday. Ashcraft is 4-2 with a 4.35 ERA and 1.29 WHIP this season. He gave up 10 hits in his last start but only allowed a couple of earned runs in 6.0 innings of an 8-3 home loss to the New York Mets on July 6. Brandon Drury, who is an All-Star snub this year, is slashing .293/.341/.585 this July with a couple of homers and 10 RBIs.
The Yankees remain among the favorites to win the 2022 World Series even though they lost their last two games to the Boston Red Sox. The offense of the Bronx Bombers remains scary, with Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, and Giancarlo Stanton providing power at the plate. The Yankees are leading the majors in wOBA (.344) and wRC+ (119). They probably don’t even need their offense to explode this Tuesday to beat the Reds because New York will have Gerrit Cole on the mound. Cole is 8-2 this season with a 3.26 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. Cole has not allowed more than 2 earned runs in four of his last five starts overall.
