Kyle Busch
It’s just foolish to ignore Kyle Busch right now. The team Joe Gibbs Racing driver has won again last week, topping the rest of the field at at Pocono to tie Ken Harvick for most wins on the season with six. Just how hot Busch has been of late? Well, he’s finished finished no worse than fifth in eight of his last nine starts. So far in his career, Busch has won two races in 13 events at Watkins Glen. Last year, he finished seventh during the The I LOVE NEW YORK 355. Of those 13 races, Busch also finished 11 times to go with an average finish of 9.85.
Martin Truex Jr.
Martin Truex Jr. saw his streak of top five finishes end last week when he went 15th at Pocono. That said, you have to admire the fact that prior to Pocono, he won two events and finished fourth and second in four previous starts. Will Truex get back into top-10 form this coming weekend? While that remains to be seen, it is a fact that he won in the last time he raced at Watkins Glen, pacing everybody else during last year’s The I LOVE NEW YORK 355. Truex has seven top 10 finishes in 12 career starts at Watkins Glen.
Joey Logano
It hasn’t been quite a fruitful season for Joey Logano, who only has a win to show so far. That being said, he’s been flirting with success of late. Although he finished just 26th at Pocono, he still has five top-10 finishes over his last eight starts. He has a win in nine races at Watkins Glen to go with three top 5s and five top 10s. He also has an average finish of 14.00. Logano also has a pair of top two finishes in his last three starts there.
Sleeper Pick
Chase Elliott
The Hendricks Motorsports driver hasn’t won a race this season, but he seems to be zeroing in on his first taste of success this year. After a fifth-place finish in New Hampshire, he bounced into the next week with a seventh-place finish.
Long Shot Pick
Ty Dillon
If you insist on a long shot, a very long one, then Ty Dillon is surely one who fits the bill. He has zero wins in 21 starts this season. He has not finished no better than 23rd in any of his last three events. He was 24th last week at Pocono and 23rd at New Hampshire a race before. His best finish this season is a top six at Daytona back on Jul. 7.
Writer’s Prediction
Martin Truex Jr. gets right back on track with a win after his lackluster performance in the week prior, making him a smart investment going into GoBowling at the Glen.
