Oakland Raiders vs Denver Broncos Predictions, Picks, Odds and Betting Preview – NFL Week 2 – September 16 2018

Jon Gruden’s first game back as head coach for the Oakland Raiders didn’t end well, as his team took an embarrassing loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday. Another loss could probably cause an uproar in Raiders nation, especially after the team decided to let Khalil Mack go via a trade. Will the Raiders bounce back and beat the Denver Broncos on the road this coming Sunday? Or will the Broncos zoom to a 2-0 start to the season?

The Raiders are currently +1,500 to win the AFC West, while the Broncos are +250 to rule the division.

Betting on the Oakland Raiders (0-1)

How quickly the Raiders knew how much they are missing with Khalil Mack no longer with the team. In their very first game of the season, the Raiders were thwarted by the Los Angeles Rams at home on Monday in a 33-13 loss. The Raiders stayed with Los Angeles in the first half, but were left eating dust in the final two quarters of the game thanks mostly to their lack of quarterback pressure and repeated turnovers that killed their momentum. Without Mack, Rams QB Jared Goff and running back Todd Gurley got into their groove in the second half, as LA broke away from the Raiders. On the flipside, Raiders quarterback Derek Carr passed for 303 yards but didn’t have a touchdown while also throwing three interceptions. One bright spot for Oakland in that game, and there weren’t a lot, was tight end Jared Cook who racked up 180 receiving yards on nine receptions. The Raiders, however, need more from their wide receivers after Jordy Nelson and Amari Cooper combined for a mere 32 yards on four receptions.

The under is 3-0 in Oakland’s last three road games.

Betting on the Denver Broncos (1-0)

After Rams defensive tackle made life hard for Derek Carr, the Raiders will next face the pair of Von Miller and Bradley Chubb. Miller, for one, was nearly unstoppable in last week’s 27-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks, as the veteran made a mincemeat out of Russell Wilson’s protection. Miller had three sacks of the Broncos’ six sacks that resulted into 56 lost yards for Seahawks. Miller and the Broncos will look to disrupt Oakland’s offense downfield, too, after the team picked Wilson twice. On offense, Denver’s new quarterback, Case Keenum, had a shaky Broncos debut, finishing with 329 passing yards on 25-of-39 completions to go with three touchdowns and three interceptions. What’s more interesting, however, is the Denver’s backfield. Rookies Royce Freeman and Phillip Lindsay each had 15 carries for 71 yards. Lindsay was a revelation, and his performance effectively slides Devontae Booker into a third-string role. The duo of Freeman and Lindsay should be able to find cracks on Oakland’s defense that allowed 140 yards to the Rams on Monday.

The Broncos are 5-4-1 ATS in their last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Oakland wins, 26-23.
