Baltimore Ravens vs Carolina Panthers Predictions, Picks, Odds, and Betting Preview – NFL Week 8 – October 28 2018

The Carolina Panthers (+5,000 to win Super Bowl 53) are undefeated at home this season. In fact, you’d have to walk back to October of last year to see the last time the Panthers lost at their stomping grounds. But can the Baltimore Ravens (+1,500) end the Panthers’ eight-game home win streak? Or will Baltimore be just a part of the statistic at Bank of America Stadium?

Betting on the Baltimore Ravens (4-3)

After a statement 21-0 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 6, the Ravens made it just a little harder for people to view them as serious Super Bowl contenders by losing to the New Orleans Saints, 24-23,  last Sunday. Their inconsistency on the field has been baffling. Having said all of that, the Ravens could have actually won the game if it weren’t for the usually reliable kicker Justin Tucker missing what would have been a game-winning field goal. If he did, we would be talking more about the Ravens’ defense that has been fantastic this season.  In fact, the Ravens are tops in the league in both scoring and total defense with just 14.4 points and 280.6 total yards surrendered per contest. Carolina doesn’t have an offense that’s as potent as the Saints’, which Baltimore held to 11 points fewer than its season average, so expect the Ravens’ stop unit to pose big headaches to Cam Newton and company.

The Ravens are 6-3-1 ATS in their last 10 road games.

Betting on the Carolina Panthers (4-2)

The Panthers performed some sort of a miracle last Sunday, as they erased a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles on the road, 21-17. It’s a huge morale-booster of a win for the Panthers, with head coach Ron Rivera saying that it was a “statement” victory. Cam Newton passed for 269 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions against the Eagles. He also led the team with 49 rushing yards on seven carries. Given how stout Baltimore’s defense is, the Panthers will have to diversify their attack and spread their touches more. Which they actually did in the Philly game with eight different players getting at least a reception. The Panthers’ defense can also bite. They are 10th in scoring defense with 21.8 points allowed per game and ninth against the run with 95.0 rushing yards given up per contest.

The Panthers are 8-0 SU and 6-2 ATS in their last eight home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Baltimore wins, 23-20.
