Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (3-5)

The Jags need to find a way to stop their tailspin. Perhaps a Week 9 bye have given them enough time to get it together, and we’ll see whether that’s the case when they take on Indianapolis this coming Sunday. Before heading into an extra week of rest, the Jags took a 24-18 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in London. Against the defending Super Bowl champions, Jags quarterback Blake Bortles had a relatively great performance but he was still only able to come up with 286 passing yards and a touchdown on 24-of-41 completion as he was consistently pressured in the pocket. He was sacked four times for a loss of 21 yards. The Jaguars’ run game has to give Bortles more help after the team pumped out a measly total of 70 rushing yards on 17 carries. Furthermore, Jacksonville’s defense has to live up to its preseason hype, which didn’t show up in the Philly game in which the Eagles went 7-for-12 on third downs.

The under is 3-1 in the Jaguars’ last four games away from home.

Betting on the Indianapolis Colts (3-5)

The Colts are starting to get in a groove. After going 1-5 in their first six games of the season, Indianapolis has gone 2-0 and it will have a golden chance to make it three in a row when it meets the struggling Jaguars side this weekend. The last time they were on the field, the Colts got another fantastic showing from franchise quarterback Andrew Luck, who went 22-of-31 for 239 passing yards and three touchdowns without an interception. All three of his touchdown passes were caught by tight ends, and he might as well continue looking for his TEs in the end zone against the Jags. Back in their London game, the Jags allowed Eagles tight ends Dallas Goedert and Zach Ertz each score a touchdown, so keep an eye on the Colts’ pair of Jack Doyle and Eric Ebron. Ebron leads the team with  394 receiving yards to go with seven touchdowns.

The Colts, who are sixth in the NFL with 28.9 points per game, have covered the spread in each of their last two games.

Writer’s Prediction

The Jaguars defeat Indianapolis, 24-21.
