“You’re disappointed to not come out of here with a win. At the same time we didn’t lose,” Matt Ryan said after the Colts were not able to pull off a win against the Houston Texans on the road Sunday. Instead, the Colts settled with a 20-20 tie. The Colts will try again next Sunday against the Jaguars, who had a much worse Week 1 experience. Ryan passed for 32/50 and 352 passing yards and a touchdown plus interception versus the Texans, while running back Jonathan Taylor and wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr, each had great showings in the draw with Houston. Ryan could certainly do better, and he could finally have that throwback performance in Week 2 against Jacksonville which allowed four touchdown passes to Carson Wentz in Week 1.
The Colts are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games away from home.
Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (+4)
Regular Season Record: 0-1
The Jaguars suffered a 28-22 road loss to the Washington Commanders in Week 1. Trevor Lawrence looked shaky still under center in the first game of his sophomore year in the NFL. He went 24/42 for 275 passing yards and a touchdown with an interception. If there was a bright spot for the Jags in that game, it was rookie linebacker Travon Walker, who had a sack and an interception versus the Commanders. It’s the first time since 2017 that a rookie had a sack and a pick in his NFL debut. Despite the loss, Jacksonville can feel a bit better over the play of James Robinson, who had 66 rushing yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Robinson is coming off an injury but appeared 100% now. He could be the difference-maker for the Jags in Week 2 against the Colts, whose run defense was not really tested in Week 1.
The Under is 7-3 in the Jaguars’ last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Colts win, 30-14.
