Betting on the Indianapolis Colts (6-5)
Andrew Luck was a bit shaky in last week’s 27-24 win over the Miami Dolphins at home, but he was solid nonetheless, completing 30-of-37 passes for 343 yards and three touchdowns against a pair of interception. The Colts are now on a five-game win streak, and they must be feeling good about adding another victory to that roll, as they face a Jaguars team that’s looking like it’s teetering on the edge. That’s the same Jags unit they Indianapolis took down back in Week 12 at home, 29-26. In that meeting, Luck went 21 of 29 for 285 passing yards and three touchdowns with only an interception. Among the secrets of the Colts’ success is their nearly impenetrable offensive line. By buying Luck enough realty and time in the pocket, the quarterback has been able to do what he’s supposed to on offense. Luck has been sacked just once over the Colts’ current win streak. The Jags weren’t able to get to him in the first meeting.
The Colts are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six road games.
Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (3-8)
It has come down to this for the Jaguars: they are benching Blake Bortles in favor of Cody Kessler. You can say the Jags were forced into making that huge decision by their seven-game losing skid that turned the team into a joke again after just making the AFC title game a season ago. Kessler has played just one game this season, a 20-7 home loss to the Houston Texans in Week 7 when he passed for 156 yards and a touchdown with an interception on 21-of-30 completions. Apart from Bortles, the Jags are also going to miss the services of running back Leonard Fournette this weekend, as the NFL has meted out a one-game suspension on the former LSU Tigers star for his role in the on-field skirmish in last Sunday’s 24-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills on the road. With Fournette out, the Jags will resort to the backfield tandem of Carlos Hyde and T.J. Yeldon. If old man Frank Gore can go off for 67 rushing yards against Indianapolis last week, Hyde and Yeldon should be able to do better than that this weekend.
The Jaguars are 3-0 SU and ATS in their last three home games against Indianapolis.
Writer’s Prediction
Indianapolis wins, 26-21.
