Betting on the Mississippi State Bulldogs (15-4 Overall / 4-3 Conference)

After getting handed a 76-55 loss in Lexington by the No. 8 Kentucky Wildcats, the Bulldogs rebounded and victimized the tail-spinning No. 16 Auburn Tigers last Saturday on the road, 92-84. The game against the Tigers can be taken as a showcase of the offensive talents of Quinndary Weatherspoon, who blew up with 27 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field, including a 4-for-5 line from behind the arc. Weatherspoon is up there with Tennessee star Grant Williams when it comes to the scoring monsters of the conference. Weatherspoon is second in the SEC with 17.3 points per game. Weatherspoon had 18 points in the first meeting with Ole Miss this season, though, it ended in an 81-77 home loss on Jan. 12. Mississippi State needs to watch its turnovers. The Bulldogs’ inability to take care of the leather doomed them against Ole Miss, as they committed 15 errors to just 10 by the Rebels.

Pending their Tuesday’s date with the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, the Bulldogs are 4-2 SU and ATS in their last six road games.

Betting on the Ole Miss Rebels (14-5 Overall / 4-2 Conference)

The Rebels failed to recover from a 74-53 road loss to Alabama on Jan. 22, as they fell prey to the No. 24 Iowa State Cyclones last Saturday, 87-73. Since a blistering 10-game winning streak, the Rebels have gone south, going 1-3 SU in their last four games. They have a meeting with the Florida Gators in Gainesville this Wednesday before their rematch with Mississippi State, but regardless of the game’s outcome against Florida, the Rebels are going to need to take down the Bulldogs again to gain the attention of the committee come March. In the first meeting with Mississippi State, the Rebels leaned on the offense of Blake Hinson, who led the team with 26 points. Breein Tyree, meanwhile, had 19. Tyree is the Rebels’ top scorer this season, as he’s averaging 17.3 points per game. He had 22 in the loss to the Cyclones. Hopefully for the Rebels, they can find their shooting touch from distance again against Mississippi State. They went 12-for-21 from deep in the first meeting for a 38.7 percent clip.

The Rebels are 7-0 SU and 6-1 ATS in their last seven home games against Mississippi State.

Writer’s Prediction

Mississippi State wins, 80-72.
