Betting on the Cincinnati Bengals (0-2)
Back in Week 1, the Bengals played well enough to defy the lowly expectations, but Week 2 brought them closer to the reality of their situation, as they got walloped by the San Francisco 49ers in a 41-17 loss at home last Sunday. Quarterback Andy Dalton passed for 291 yards and two touchdowns with an interception on 26 for 42 completions. The Bengals have considerable talent in their passing attack with or without AJ Green, as they have the tandem of Tyler Boyd and John Ross, who could rip off huge plays on any given time, but their pass protection and defense will have to get better to get more time with the ball. The Niners sacked Dalton four times for a loss of 20 yards. The Bengals are hurting for some good news, and they could have one soon, as Green reportedly has taken a big step towards full recovery. His status for next week should be monitored closely.
For bettors looking to lay money on the Bengals, here’s an encouraging trend: Cincinnati is 5-0 ATS and 8-2 against the spread (ATS) in its last five and 10 games away from home.
Betting on the Buffalo Bills (2-0)
The AFC East is still the New England’s kingdom, but the Bills are making a strong case for the second-best team in the division. The Bills have started the season with back-to-back victories, defeating the New York Jets in Week 1 before taking down the New York Giants in East Rutherford last Sunday, 28-14. Josh Allen completed 19 of 30 passes for 253 yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions against the Giants, while three different Bills players rushed for a score each, including Allen. The second-year quarterback has rushed for two touchdowns already this early in the season, and with the Bengals’ leaky defense up next for Buffalo, Allen could capitalize once again with his ability to make plays with his feet. Rookie running back Devin Singletary, who had 57 rushing yards and a touchdown on six carries against the Giants, sustained a hamstring injury in Week 2. It’s something that’s not serious based on early reports, but if he can’t go, the Bills still have ageless wonder Frank Gore to rely on the ground attack. Buffalo is 10th in the league with 98.5 rushing yards per game.
The under is 3-1 in the Bills’ last four home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Bills win, 23-20.
