The No. 7 Penn State Nittany Lions (+3000 to win the national title) are still undefeated, but the toughest test for them this season is yet to come. Betting on the Michigan Wolverines (5-1 Overall / 3-1 Conference)
It’s now three wins in a row for the Wolverines. In their last outing, the Wolverines chomped on the Illinois Fighting Illini’s defense in a 42-25 road win back in Week 7. Quarterback Shea Patterson only had 194 passing yards on 11-of-22 completions, but he had three passing touchdowns nonetheless. The Wolverines’ run game brought its A-game, with Hassan Haskins and Zach Charbonnet rushing for 125 and 116 yards, respectively, while also scoring a rushing touchdown apiece. Penn State’s defense looks fantastic on paper, but it’s not like the Wolverines have tantalized against elite defenses. Heading into the matchup with the Wolverines, Penn State has only beaten the likes of Idaho, Buffalo, and Pittsburgh. Penn State also nearly lost in its first game against a ranked opponent last week, so Michigan will give the Nittany Lions the test they are in danger of failing.
The Wolverines are 2-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last three games.
Betting on the Penn State Nittany Lions (6-0 Overall / 3-0 Conference)
The undefeated Nittany Lions had to use up all the energy they can last week in a 17-12 road win over No. 17 Iowa Hawkeyes. Quarterback Sean Clifford passed for 117 yards and a touchdown while running back Noah Cain blew doors on the ground and rushed for 102 yards and a score on 22 carries. The Nittany Lions have a well-balanced team that, on offense, can beat opponents on air or on the ground. Defensively, they are much better. Penn State is allowing just 8.4 points per game, and while they haven’t faced many elite teams thus far, the consistency is there, and it’s not like the Hawkeyes are a pushover team. So far this year, the Nittany Lions are allowing just 8.4 points per game and 282.6 total yards per contest — second and ninth-best nationally, respectively.
The Nittany Lions are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games at home.
Writer’s Prediction
The Wolverines win, 24-21.
