Betting on the Tennessee Volunteers (2-4 Overall / 1-2 Conference)
It’s been a very tough season to swallow for the Volunteers, but they were not going to let the Mississippi State Bulldogs add to their frustrations. Tennessee prevented a three-game skid by defeating the Bulldogs last Saturday at home, 20-10, in a game that saw the Vols’ pass rush come to life and make a huge difference. The Vols entered the game with just eight sacks on the season, but they ended the day with 15 overall after taking down Mississippi State QBs seven times. Alabama’s offensive line isn’t as weak as that of the Bulldogs’, but Tennessee needs to show up with at least the same level of ferocity in Tuscaloosa in terms of getting to Tua Tagovailoa. It’s very much obvious but deserves reiterating nonetheless: to cripple Bama, the Vols need to slow down Tagovailoa.
The Volunteers, who are averaging 18.6 points per game, are 2-2 in their last four games. The under is also 3-0 in Tennessee’s last three games away from Knoxville.
Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (6-0 Overall / 3-0 Conference)
Alabama is still undefeated. That’s after the Crimson Tide passed the test put in front of them by the No. 24 Texas A&M Aggies last Saturday in College Station. Tua Tagovailoa went bonkers again under center, passing for 293 yards and four touchdowns with an interception on 21-of-34 completions while running back Najee Harris had 114 rushing yards on 20 carries. Tenneessee’s defense has improved last week, but it has yet to reach a level that will put sweat on the foreheads of Crimson Tide players. With Alabama, there are just too many elite pieces for opposing defense to worry about. Tagovailoa is the golden boy of Alabama, and he’s protected by so well by the team’s offensive line that has allowed just seven sacks on the season — second-fewest in the SEC. Alabama is also 13th nationally with a 3.32 offensive quarterback sack percentage. Defensively, Alabama will find suppressing Tennessee’s attacks easy. Alabama is 13th in the nation with just 17.0 points allowed per game.
The Crimson Tide are 8-2 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 games.
Writer’s Prediction
Alabama wins by a final score of 51-17.
