Betting on the Arkansas Razorbacks (ODDS)

Record: 19-10 Overall/8-8 Conference

Arkansas lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide last Saturday in Tuscaloosa, 86-83, but the Razorbacks can still feel good about themselves. The Razorbacks sure did make the No. 2 team in that nation sweat bullets in that contest in large part because of their defense, Arkansas held the Crimson Tide to just 45.3 FG% and outrebounded Nate Oats’ team, 48-37. Nick Smith paced Arkansas with 24 points, while Davonte Davis and Ricky Council IV produced 21 and 20 points, respectively. The Razorbacks’ defense can be a big thorn in the side of Tennessee, which might find it harder to get off shots in the paint because Arkansas is the No. 1 team in the SEC in terms of defensive block rate. The Razorback swatted away six shots in the Alabama game, as well.

Arkansas is 3-0 against the spread in its last three games overall.

Betting on the Tennessee Volunteers (ODDS)

Record: 21-8 Overall/10-6 Conference

After back-to-back losses to the Kentucky Wildcats and the Texas A&M Aggies, the Volunteers had enough and went nuclear last Saturday, demolishing the South Carolina Gamecocks at home, 85-45, for not just a victory but an easy win against a big spread. At their best, the Volunteers are one of the toughest teams to crack in the nation. Defensively, the Vols are arguably the best in the nation, as it is No. 1 overall with just 86.7 points allowed per 100 possessions adjusted. South Carolina could attest to that after it shot just 35.2 FG% and committed a 24.5 TO% against Tennessee.

The Under is 6-3-1 in Tennessee’s last nine outings.

Writer’s Prediction

Tennessee wins, 72-64.
