Betting on the Oakland Raiders (6-4)
The Raiders continue their push for a playoff spot, as they scored their third win in a row last Sunday by taking down the Cincinnati Bengals at home, 17-10. Derek Carr passed for 292 yards and a touchdown and an interception on a silky 25-of-29 completions. Josh Jacobs rushed for 112 yards on 23 carries, while Tyrell Williams and Darren Waller had 82 and 78 receiving yards, respectively. The Raiders should have beaten Cincinnati in a more convincing fashion given the overall quality of the winless Bengals, and it’s a lesson they should take with them when they go up against the going-nowhere Jets. Carr can have yet another efficient day against the Jets, who are allowing 25.5 points per contest. Carr can also expect more time to decide in the pocket and find his receivers, given that the Jets’ pass rush has generated just six sacks so far this season.
The Raiders are 3-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last four games.
Betting on the New York Jets (3-7)
Sure, the Jets are going to need some sort of a miracle to make it to the playoffs, but they have looked much better of late, as they are on a two-game winning streak. In their most recent outing, they defeated the Washington Redskins on the road, 34-17, with Sam Darnold putting up his best performance yet of the year. Darnold passed for 293 yards and four touchdowns against just an interception on 19-of-30 completions. Tight end Ryan Griffin also had a field day downfield, leading the Jets with 109 receiving yards with a touchdown on five catches. He’s not going to have that kind of success every week, but his emergence is very much welcome for the Jets, whose offense often looks disjointed and unable to put together consistent drives. The Jets are averaging 16.4 points per game, 29th in the NFL, and 248.2 total yards per contest, worst in the league. Their defense offers more positive outlook, especially against the run, as they are allowing the fewest rushing yards per game (79.1).
The Jets are 2-1 ATS in their last three home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Jets stun the Raiders, 23-20.
